6ª Sessão Leituras ETNO.URB: Sidewalk de M. Duneier com Daniel Malet

“Yet, in going beyond the biographical roots of being unhoused to the social-psychological condition of the people on Sixth Avenue, I do find representative value in Ron’s story. In the discussions I eventually conducted with the men I met, I discovered that almost every one of them spoke of a time when he had essentially given up and said, “I don’t care anymore.”

Even men who had been put out of their houses, coming close to lacking any control at that moment, had a moment when they gave up and said (to use the vernacular of the streets), “Fuck it!”. (…) It is in this frame of mind that each of them reports arriving on the street, gradually giving up on some of the most basic culturally prescribed goals and means for living, and entering the informal writtenmatter economy.”

Sidewalk de Mitchell Duneier (1999), p. 50
